Turkish monitoring groups report August femicide data as Siirt court accepts murder indictment

Monitoring groups report August figures on gender-based violence in Turkey, while prosecutors in Siirt indict five suspects in a murder case.
Newly released figures from civil society and independent media highlight ongoing gender-based violence in Turkey during August. The We Will Stop Femicide Platform recorded 22 femicides and 33 suspicious female deaths, noting that over half of the victims were killed in their homes. Separately, media outlet Bianet documented at least 25 women killed and 71 injured over the same period through its independent monitoring of regional and national news.
Meanwhile, legal proceedings have advanced in a high-profile criminal case in Siirt. State prosecutors concluded their investigation into the disappearance of a mother of four, using digital footprints, cellular tower records, and license plate tracking to establish homicide. The Siirt 1st High Criminal Court accepted an indictment charging five suspects, including the victim's former husband and his family members.
