Turkish monitors report dozens of August femicides as prosecutors resolve 2024 case

Monitoring groups in Turkey report dozens of femicides in August as prosecutors in Siirt bring charges in a 2024 murder case.
Monitoring groups in Turkey have published new data detailing ongoing gender-based violence in August. The We Will Stop Femicide Platform recorded 22 femicides and 33 suspicious female deaths, noting that over half of the victims were killed inside their homes. Meanwhile, independent news outlet Bianet documented at least 25 women killed and 71 injured during the same month.
In southeastern Turkey, prosecutors in Siirt completed an indictment against five individuals, including the victim's former husband and in-laws, in connection with the October 2024 murder of a mother of four. Investigators resolved the case using digital footprints, phone records, and license plate tracking. Siirt authorities are also conducting a separate inquiry into the suspicious deaths of a 12-year-old boy and his father whose bodies were recovered from water.
