Rights monitoring groups in Turkey published August gender-based violence data as prosecutors in Siirt charged five individuals over a murder dating back to 2024.

Newly released figures from rights organizations highlight ongoing violence against women in Turkey during August, while judicial authorities in Siirt province filed charges in a murder case dating back to 2024.

Data compiled by the We Will Stop Femicide Platform and reported by Cumhuriyet indicates that 22 women were killed and 33 died under suspicious circumstances in August, with over half murdered inside their homes. Independent monitoring by Bianet recorded at least 25 women killed and 71 injured during the same month based on press tracking.

Separately, prosecutors in Siirt completed an investigation into the murder of a mother of four, filing an indictment against five suspects—including her former husband and in-laws. Investigators utilized digital footprints, cell tower data, and license plate tracking to establish the charges.
