Rights groups in Turkey published August statistics on gender-based violence, as prosecutors in Siirt filed charges over a 2024 murder case.
New statistical reports and legal filings in Turkey highlight ongoing gender-based violence and suspicious deaths across the country. According to the We Will Stop Femicide Platform, 22 women were killed and 33 died under suspicious circumstances in August, with 55 percent murdered in their homes. Separately, monitoring by independent news outlet Bianet recorded at least 25 women killed and 71 injured during the same period.
In Siirt, prosecutors completed an indictment charging five suspects, including her former husband and relatives, over the 2024 murder of a mother of four. Investigators used digital footprints and location-tracking records to resolve the case. Local authorities in Siirt are also investigating the suspicious deaths of a 12-year-old boy and his father found in water.
