Rights groups publish August femicide figures for Turkey as Siirt prosecutor files murder indictment

Civil society groups release differing August femicide figures for Turkey, while Siirt prosecutors charge five suspects over a 2024 murder.
Turkish civil society organizations have released conflicting data regarding gender-based violence in August. According to figures from the We Will Stop Femicide Platform, 22 women were killed and 33 died under suspicious circumstances, with over half murdered inside their homes. Independent monitoring by media outlet Bianet documented at least 25 women killed and 71 injured over the same timeframe.
In a separate legal development, state prosecutors in Siirt completed an investigation into the October 2024 disappearance of a mother of four. Authorities indicted five suspects, including the victim's former husband and relatives, after utilizing digital footprints, cell tower data, and license plate tracking to confirm homicide. The Siirt 1st High Criminal Court has accepted the indictment.
