Trump threatens EU with tariffs over proposed Canada associate membership

US President Donald Trump has threatened the EU with trade tariffs following a proposal to grant Canada associate membership status in the bloc.
US President Donald Trump has warned of severe tariffs and trade limitations against the European Union following a proposal by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen to make Canada the bloc's first associate member.
Trump described the initiative as "ridiculous" and cautioned that deepening ties between Brussels and Ottawa could be considered an unfriendly act toward Washington. However, he noted that potential punitive trade measures might be avoided if the EU's intentions remain constructive rather than hostile.
The tariff threats highlight growing tensions across the Atlantic amid shifting diplomatic dynamics between North America and Europe.
