German police have shot and killed 21-year-old suspect Abdul Ballout following a vehicle and weapon attack during Berlin's Pride celebrations that left one dead and 25 injured.

German police have shot and killed 21-year-old Abdul Ballout, the primary suspect in a vehicle and weapon attack during Berlin's Pride celebrations near Tiergarten. Ballout allegedly drove a rented white van into a crowd on Saturday night before attacking bystanders with a knife and machete, leaving one woman dead and 25 people injured.

Following a manhunt, police raided a garden allotment in Berlin's Spandau district, where Ballout was killed in an exchange of gunfire after opening fire on officers. Authorities confirmed Ballout had a prior conviction for preparing a serious act of violence and had previously attempted to join ISIS in Syria.

In response to the attack, German political figures issued statements of condemnation, with CDU leader Friedrich Merz stating, "We will defend our freedoms."
