Spain has established temporary facilities in Ceuta for around 1,800 migrants remaining after a massive border influx in late July.

Spanish authorities have begun relocating approximately 2,000 migrants to two temporary reception facilities in Ceuta. The Spanish migration ministry stated that the new centers aim to shelter around 1,800 people who had been sleeping on public streets and beaches following the massive border influx in late July.

The measure comes as heightened security by Spanish and Moroccan forces successfully prevented a rumored secondary border crossing expected in mid-August. Moroccan police deployed dozens of vehicles along the perimeter, while Spanish forces reinforced local border garrisons.

Although most of the estimated 72,000 individuals who entered the enclave have since returned to Morocco, local frustration persists regarding persistent social pressure and political exploitation of the crisis.
