Spain establishes temporary reception centres for migrants in Ceuta

Spain has established two temporary reception centers in Ceuta to shelter around 1,800 remaining migrants following July's border surge.
Spanish authorities have set up two temporary reception facilities in Ceuta to shelter approximately 1,800 to 2,000 migrants who remain in the North African enclave. The measure follows a mass border crossing in late July, when around 72,000 people entered from Morocco. While most returned, hundreds have been sleeping on beaches and public spaces in harsh conditions.
Security was reinforced after rumors circulated online regarding another border opening on August 15, though no new surge materialized. However, political tension and local frustration inside the enclave continue to grow, with residents citing infrastructure strain and political exploitation. Spanish officials stated the temporary centers aim to provide basic housing while legal processing continues.
