Spain has deployed military forces in Ceuta following a surge of migrant entries, as conflicting reports emerge regarding total arrivals and official casualties.

Spanish authorities have deployed military units to Ceuta to detain and deport migrants following a massive border crossing. Regional President Juan Jesús Vivas estimated that up to 80,000 individuals entered the enclave, leaving between 3,000 and 5,000 remaining. In contrast, Morocco’s Interior Ministry reported 40,000 arrivals in Ceuta, 1,135 in Melilla, and 11 fatalities on its territory.

Morocco denied relaxing border controls or bowing to pressure, attributing the surge to a Spanish legal ruling and criticizing European political rhetoric. Meanwhile, the Spanish government dismissed a National Security Department official over an unauthorized report stating 49,000 migrants had entered, highlighting internal friction in Madrid over the response.
