Spain's interior ministry is sending 60 military personnel to Ceuta to support local police after thousands of migrants crossed into the enclave from Morocco.

Spain's Ministry of Interior has announced the deployment of 60 military personnel to reinforce police in Ceuta following a mass border crossing from Morocco. The military support aims to assist local law enforcement in maintaining order after thousands of migrants, predominantly Moroccan nationals, arrived in the enclave via coastal and land routes.

The deployment follows calls from local officials in Ceuta, who urged Madrid to declare a state of emergency as emergency services struggled to manage the sudden influx. Footage from the area showed groups of arrivals on Tarajal beach, including young men and families.

The armed forces will directly support police operations to secure the territory.
