Europe faces widespread extreme heat as Austria records 40.8°C and Italy issues top-level alerts across 27 major cities amid rising health risks.

Extreme heat continues to break temperature records and strain public health systems across Europe. In Austria, meteorological officials registered a preliminary national record of 40.8 degrees Celsius near Vienna. Meanwhile, Italy has placed all 27 monitored major cities under red alerts during its fourth major heatwave of the season, advising the public to avoid outdoor exposure during peak daytime hours following multiple fatalities.

High temperatures approaching 40 degrees Celsius are also forecast across France and the United Kingdom, intensifying prolonged drought conditions and elevating wildfire risks. European health analysts warn that repeated heatwaves across the continent have contributed to significant excess mortality this summer.
