Ségolène Royal qualifies for left-wing primary ahead of 2027 French election

Ségolène Royal has secured enough endorsements to run in October's left-wing primary for the 2027 French presidential election alongside six other candidates.
Former French presidential candidate Ségolène Royal has secured the required endorsements to participate in October's left-wing primary ahead of the 2027 presidential election. Jointly organized by the Socialist Party and Place Publique, the primary will take place over two rounds on October 9–10 and October 16–17.
Royal is among seven declared candidates, joining contenders such as Socialist Party First Secretary Olivier Faure. Meanwhile, Communist Party leader Fabien Roussel announced a separate presidential bid outside the primary framework.
Despite earlier commitments to refrain from attacking rivals, Royal generated internal friction after labeling contender Raphaël Glucksmann the "chouchou des médias".
