Ségolène Royal has gathered enough sponsorships to join six other declared candidates in the French left-wing primary for the 2027 presidential election.

Former French presidential candidate Ségolène Royal has secured the sponsorships required to run in the upcoming left-wing primary for the 2027 presidential election. Organized jointly by the Socialist Party and Place Publique, the primary will take place over two rounds in October.

Royal is one of seven declared candidates in the contest, alongside Socialist Party First Secretary Olivier Faure. Tensions have already emerged, as Royal launched early criticisms against rival Raphaël Glucksmann, calling him the "chouchou des médias". Meanwhile, French Communist Party leader Fabien Roussel confirmed he will bypass the primary to run an independent campaign.
