Russian frontline advances remained stalled through late September as Moscow shifted focus to large-scale aerial strikes on Ukrainian energy infrastructure ahead of winter.

Russian ground operations in Ukraine remained largely stagnant through late September, with independent mapping analysts reporting near-zero net territorial changes over a four-week period despite claims of progress from Moscow. While Russian forces achieved minor localized advances earlier in the summer, Ukrainian counter-attacks—particularly near Oleksandrivka—effectively neutralized those gains.

In response to stalled frontline operations, Russian forces escalated strategic aerial attacks against Ukrainian energy and heating infrastructure ahead of winter. Ukrainian Prime Minister Serhij Koreckyj confirmed recent strikes on power facilities in the Kyiv region represented the heaviest assault since the previous heating season. Concurrently, Ukrainian air defense interception rates against incoming drones fell to 83 percent in September, down from 92 percent in May.
