Mountaineer Nirmal Purja and nine others killed in Pakistan avalanche

Famed climber Nirmal Purja and nine expedition members have died following a massive avalanche on Pakistan's Broad Peak.
Mountaineering company Elite Expeditions has confirmed the death of Nepalese-born climber Nirmal Purja and nine other expedition members following an avalanche on Pakistan's Broad Peak. The disaster struck the 8,047-metre Karakoram mountain on Thursday, severing all communication with the international group.
Pakistani rescue officials initially located the remains of three team members—identified as climbers from Oman, Nepal, and the United States—while search efforts continued for seven missing individuals. On Saturday, Elite Expeditions announced that all ten people on the expedition had perished in the accident.
Purja, 43, a former British Royal Marine, achieved global renown after scaling all 14 of the world’s 8,000-metre peaks in less than seven months in 2019.
