Moscow reported intercepting 12 drones while Russian forces launched dozens of strikes across Ukraine, prompting UN concern over rising civilian casualties in July.

Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin stated that Russian air defenses intercepted 12 drones heading toward the capital on July 28, prompting temporary operational restrictions at local airports.

Meanwhile, Russian military forces conducted extensive attacks across several Ukrainian regions. In Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, officials reported more than 50 drone and artillery bombardments targeting Nikopol and surrounding areas, resulting in three deaths and six injuries. In Zaporizhzhia, a drone strike on a commercial venue wounded four people, including two children. Additionally, a strike near a high-rise residential building in Kharkiv left one person injured.

At a UN Security Council session, UN official Kayoko Gotoh reported a significant rise in Ukrainian civilian casualties throughout July. She highlighted sustained strikes on residential neighborhoods, public sites, and logistics infrastructure, noting that attacks in Kyiv alone caused at least 56 deaths and 232 injuries during the month.
