Firefighters in France and Spain continue battling massive wildfires that have forced over 250,000 people to evacuate, with flames pushing into the Bordeaux metropolitan area.

Mass evacuations have expanded across southwestern France and Spain as firefighters struggle against relentless wildfires driven by high winds and soaring temperatures. In France's Gironde department, flames have advanced toward the metropolitan area of Bordeaux, burning over 42,000 hectares and forcing more than 220,000 residents to flee. Authorities ordered an additional 55,000 people to leave their homes as conditions deteriorated over the weekend.

The blazes have disrupted key transit infrastructure, severing rail connections between Bordeaux and Biarritz, while two firefighters have been killed during containment operations. French Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez confirmed that fires have consumed 115,000 hectares nationwide this year. Meanwhile, local officials in the Var region suspect intentional arson following several simultaneous outbreaks. Emergency efforts remain underway across both nations.
