Moldova proposes new e-commerce and banking taxes, Romanian retailers curb energy usage, and China expands global audits on wealthy citizens.

Moldovan authorities have proposed new fiscal measures targeting cross-border e-commerce and banking sectors. Under the draft policy, orders under €150 from foreign online platforms face a 20% value-added tax and a 12 MDL fee to establish equal conditions for local merchants. Additionally, a temporary increase in bank profit tax from 12% to 18% has drawn warnings from financial experts regarding potential reductions in private sector lending.

In Romania, major retail chains voluntarily limited air conditioning and lighting to ease national grid strain. Meanwhile, the European Commission cautioned that failing or reversing commitments under national recovery plans will carry "financial consequences."

Globally, Chinese tax authorities expanded enforcement targeting high-net-worth citizens to recover unpaid taxes dating back to 2000.
