Moldova proposes new e-commerce and banking taxes, while the EC warns Romania over decarbonisation goals as retailers cut power use.

Moldova has introduced fiscal proposals aimed at creating a level playing field for domestic businesses, including a 20% value-added tax and a 12 MDL fee on cross-border e-commerce orders under €150. Chisinau also plans to temporarily raise the bank profit tax from 12% to 18%, though financial experts warn the move could curtail credit growth.

In Romania, major retail chains have voluntarily reduced air conditioning and lighting to ease pressure on the national electricity grid. Meanwhile, the European Commission cautioned that failing or reversing national recovery plan decarbonisation commitments would bring "financial consequences".

Separately, Chinese tax authorities have launched a global campaign targeting high-net-worth citizens to audit and recover unpaid tax liabilities dating back to 2000.
