Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced plans to expand and legalize West Bank settlement outposts following violent clashes that left five dead.

Tensions in the occupied West Bank have heightened following violent clashes between Israeli settlers and Palestinians that left five people dead, including one Israeli and four Palestinians. Overnight strikes by Israeli forces across the territory left at least eleven Palestinians injured, according to local media reports.

In response to the clashes, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced plans to expand settlement infrastructure and rapidly "legalize" existing agricultural outposts. Meanwhile, Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich urged that local villages be "cleansed of terrorists."

Under international law, all Israeli settlements built on occupied West Bank land are considered illegal, though Israel distinguishes between state-sanctioned settlements and unapproved outposts.
