Icelandic meteorologists urge preparation as intense storm approaches

Meteorologists in Iceland have urged residents to prepare for an intense autumn storm expected to bring severe gales, heavy rain, and snowfall across the country on Wednesday.
Meteorologists at the Icelandic Meteorological Office have advised residents to prepare for an intense low-pressure system expected to sweep across the country on Wednesday. Officials warned that conditions could deteriorate rapidly, bringing eastern gales, lowland rain, and mountain snowfall.
Yellow weather warnings will begin Wednesday morning in southern regions before expanding west and northwest around noon. Orange alerts are scheduled to take effect later in the afternoon for the Westfjords, Strandir, and northwestern areas, where travel may become dangerous or impossible.
Meteorologist Þorsteinn V. Jónsson described the event as a "serious low-pressure system, deep and intense, with just about everything thrown in," adding that additional warnings could be issued as forecasts evolve.
