Iceland issues orange weather warnings as fierce storm approaches

Icelandic authorities have issued orange and yellow weather warnings across the country as a deep low-pressure system brings severe gales and wind gusts exceeding 40 m/s.
Local authorities and meteorologists in Iceland have heightened warnings as a powerful low-pressure system approaches the country, bringing severe weather conditions through Thursday.
Police in Vestmannaeyjar warned residents that wind gusts could exceed 40 meters per second, urging the public to secure outdoor items such as trampolines and garden furniture. Yellow weather alerts take effect on Wednesday morning across southern regions before expanding west and northwest by midday. Orange alerts will follow later on Wednesday afternoon and evening for the Westfjords, Strandir, and the northwest, where travel is expected to become hazardous or impossible due to easterly and northeasterly gales.
Icelandic Meteorological Office forecasters noted that weather warnings may be updated or extended as the system develops.
