Funding unavailable for Altnagelvin Hospital emergency department

Northern Ireland's health minister has confirmed that there is currently no funding available to construct a new emergency department at Altnagelvin Hospital in Londonderry, despite the project remaining a key regional priority.

During a visit to the facility on Wednesday, politician Robbie Butler highlighted the pressing need for upgraded infrastructure, stating that the project would be placed high on the capital allocation list if financial resources become available. The proposed emergency unit represents one of two top capital development priorities designated by the Western Health and Social Care Trust. However, persistent financial pressure across the region's healthcare sector continues to prevent the allocation of necessary funds for construction.
