EU extends sanctions on Russia amid renewed strikes and energy pause claim

The EU extended sanctions on Russia following a missile strike near the Polish border, as fighting caused fresh casualties in Kherson, Belgorod, and Sochi.
The European Union has formally extended sanctions against Russia following a Russian missile attack on a train near the Ukrainian-Polish border. EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas and French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot criticized the strike, describing it as an effort to intimidate European allies.
Fighting continues to cause casualties on both sides. Ukrainian authorities reported two people killed and 14 wounded during shelling in the Kherson region. Meanwhile, Russian officials reported seven injuries caused by Ukrainian drone attacks targeting the Belgorod and Sochi regions.
In diplomatic developments, U.S. President Donald Trump claimed both Kyiv and Moscow agreed to halt strikes against energy facilities. Additionally, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky signed a decree dismissing the nation's prosecutor general.
