Extreme heat continues across Europe, triggering red weather alerts in Italy, record temperatures in Austria, and over 7,300 excess deaths in France.

Extreme heat continues to affect major regions across Europe as consecutive summer heatwaves trigger public safety warnings and record temperatures.

Italian health authorities issued red weather alerts for all 27 major cities, expecting temperatures of up to 40 degrees Celsius to persist for at least another week. The extreme weather has already caused four confirmed deaths in the country. Meanwhile, Austria recorded its highest temperature on record after mercury reached 40.8 degrees Celsius near Vienna.

In France, health officials reported over 7,300 excess deaths from May to July, coinciding with 52 days of heatwave conditions spread across three distinct waves. Meteorological services in France and the United Kingdom warn of further intense heat, escalating risks of severe drought and wildfires.
