European countries issue red health alerts and record-breaking temperatures as heatwaves, drought, and rising mortality rates persist across the continent.

Severe heatwaves continue to affect multiple European nations, bringing record-high temperatures, health alerts, and elevated mortality rates. In Austria, meteorologists registered a national temperature record of 40.8 degrees Celsius near Vienna. Meanwhile, French health officials reported more than 7,300 excess deaths between May and July, corresponding to 52 heatwave days logged since mid-June.

In Southern Europe, Italy extended red heat warnings to all 27 of its primary cities as its fourth heatwave of the summer persisted, with temperatures expected to reach 40 degrees Celsius. Authorities urged residents and tourists to take precautions and remain indoors during peak afternoon hours. Further north, the United Kingdom and France are preparing for another wave of extreme heat approaching 40 degrees Celsius alongside ongoing drought conditions and elevated wildfire risks across the continent.
