Central Europe faces ongoing high temperatures and severe drought, driving the Rhine to historic lows and triggering weather alerts across Germany.

Central Europe continues to contend with intense heat and severe dry weather as weather services forecast persistent high temperatures and localized storms across Germany. According to predictions from the German Weather Service, temperatures are set to peak near 39 degrees Celsius, accompanied by warnings for heavy thunderstorms in several regions. Unseasonably warm conditions are expected to linger through the weekend, with southern areas maintaining values between 30 and 36 degrees Celsius.

The ongoing dry spell has drastically lowered water levels along key European transport arteries, including the Danube and the Rhine. At the Kaub measuring mark, the Rhine registered its lowest level recorded since 1880. Receding waters continue to impede commercial river transport, strain municipal drinking water supplies, and disrupt local ecosystems. Emergency services also remain on alert following major vegetation fires near the German border.
