EU extends sanctions on Moscow as Russia and Ukraine report fresh strikes
U.S. President Donald Trump announced a pledge between Moscow and Kyiv to avoid energy targets, as the EU extended sanctions following a border train attack.
U.S. President Donald Trump announced that Russia and Ukraine have agreed to refrain from targeting energy infrastructure, though military actions persist across multiple fronts. Local officials reported two fatalities and 14 injuries from shelling in Ukraine's Kherson region, while drone strikes wounded seven people across Russia's Belgorod and Sochi regions.
Following a Russian attack on a train near the Ukrainian-Polish border, European Union foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas and French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot warned that Moscow was attempting to intimidate and divide European allies. In response to ongoing hostilities, the European Union formally extended its sanctions regime against Russia. Meanwhile in Kyiv, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky issued an executive decree dismissing the nation's prosecutor general.
