EU ministers to hold emergency talks as Ceuta death toll reaches 67

EU interior ministers will convene for emergency talks following mass migrant arrivals in the Spanish enclave of Ceuta, where the death toll has reached 67.
The situation in the Spanish enclave of Ceuta has stabilized following the arrival of an estimated 50,000 to 60,000 migrants from Morocco. However, Spanish authorities confirmed the death toll from drownings has reached 67.
In response to the influx, European Union interior ministers will hold an emergency session on Tuesday. The meeting was requested by 22 member states calling for tighter external border management and coordinated action.
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez criticized suggestions from some European leaders regarding Schengen restrictions, describing harsh responses to the crisis as "selfish, polarising and unlawful." Spanish officials reiterated plans to return the migrants to Morocco as diplomatic discussions continue.
