New EU temporary protection rules for Ukrainians require military service compliance, while Czech authorities tackle labor tax evasion and debate defense ties with Kyiv.

New European Union regulations extending temporary protection for Ukrainian refugees through March 2028 now require individuals to fulfill military obligations to Kyiv to maintain residency status. Concurrently, Czech authorities are addressing economic and political challenges connected to Ukraine. The specialized police unit Kobra 26 is investigating complex corporate labor networks and illicit employment schemes involving Ukrainian workers that cost the Czech state billions of korunas annually in evaded taxes and insurance.

Politically, Czech engagement with Ukraine remains debated in Prague. Lawmakers are divided over joining a joint drone development initiative with Kyiv, while diplomatic visits face administrative friction. Deputy Parliamentary Speaker Barbora Urbanová met her counterpart in Kyiv following initial committee rejection, and Chief of General Staff Miroslav Hlaváč awaits Defence Ministry authorization for an upcoming summit.
