Spanish authorities process asylum claims in Ceuta while local and central officials dispute migrant numbers ahead of expected new border attempts.

Spanish authorities have begun processing around twenty asylum applications following the recent entry of migrants into the enclave of Ceuta, where border conditions near Castillejos are gradually stabilizing.

Discrepancies remain over the total number of migrants remaining in the territory. Spain's central government delegate in Ceuta, Miguel Ángel Pérez Triano, stated that approximately 2,500 migrants, including 500 unaccompanied minors, remain in the city. In contrast, regional authorities estimate the figure at 6,000, with local officials citing even higher initial entry estimates. Reports also indicate several minors are attempting to swim back to Morocco.

Security personnel are preparing for potential further breaches after a Guardia Civil report warned of a "real risk" of another mass crossing attempt on August 15 driven by social media campaigns. The situation has also spurred political debate in Madrid over border management.
