Death toll rises along Ceuta coast following mass border crossing

Search and recovery operations continue near Ceuta as casualty estimates rise following a mass migrant crossing from Morocco into the Spanish enclave.
Search and recovery operations continue off the coast of Spain's North African enclave of Ceuta following a mass migration attempt from Morocco. Authorities report varying casualty figures as additional bodies wash ashore along the coastline. Official Spanish estimates confirmed at least 72 fatalities, while local officials cited by media indicate the death toll may have reached 86 due to drownings and stampedes near the breakwater.
To contain the situation, which involved an estimated 50,000 to 60,000 people attempting to cross, Spain deployed military forces and began constructing a 500-meter protective maritime barrier. Simultaneously, Moroccan security personnel intensified road and transit checkpoints to curb movement toward both Ceuta and the neighboring enclave of Melilla.
