Germany's top DAX corporations posted record Q2 operating profits of 52.6 billion euros while continuing to reduce domestic employment, particularly in manufacturing.

Germany's top listed companies recorded historic operating profits in the second quarter while simultaneously trimming their domestic workforces. An EY analysis revealed that operating earnings for the 40 DAX index members rose nearly 16 percent to 52.6 billion euros, driven largely by international revenue growth.

However, domestic industrial jobs continue to decline, with the automotive sector experiencing rapid staff reductions that brought total employment down to 691,500 by mid-year. The divergence between strong corporate earnings and shrinking payrolls has amplified debates over national competitiveness and working hours. Business leaders have increasingly challenged traditional labor models, with power tool manufacturer advisory chairman Nikolas Stihl asserting that "in good times Germany could afford the 35-hour workweek," but can no longer do so.
