The Czech Ministry of Justice proposed reforms to accelerate child protection measures as official records show a multi-decade high in child abuse cases and family removals.

Following record reports of child abuse and neglect in the Czech Republic, the Ministry of Justice has introduced proposed legislative updates to expedite court interventions in domestic violence cases. The reform aims to streamline child protection procedures by allowing judges to issue swift protective measures rather than waiting for lengthy expert evaluations.

The initiative comes as social services report over 10,000 cases of endangered children over the past year, with 3,616 minors removed from their families. While child welfare experts cite a critical shortage of specialized support services and unified assessment guidelines, opinions differ on whether the rising statistics reflect deteriorating social conditions or improved public awareness.

Concurrently, European Union officials are advancing broader online safety measures, including the proposed EU KIDS Act to restrict social media access for children under 13.
