Czech authorities report over 10,000 child abuse and neglect cases, prompting proposed judicial reforms and warnings from child welfare experts.

Annual statistics from Czech social services show a record surge in child abuse and neglect cases, exceeding 10,000 affected children. Authorities removed 3,616 children from families last year, an increase of 300. Experts warn the figures reflect only a fraction of the issue, debating whether the rise stems from societal instability or greater public awareness. Child welfare advocates emphasized that missing operational guidelines and specialized assistance cause preventable separations.

In response, the Czech government is evaluating a Ministry of Justice proposal allowing courts to expedite protective measures for endangered children without waiting for expert evaluations. Separately, Children's Ombudsman Martin Beneš criticized proposed nationwide school mobile phone bans, arguing schools should retain autonomy.
