Wildfires force mass evacuations across France and Spain
Over 250,000 people have been evacuated across France and Spain as severe wildfires scorch tens of thousands of hectares.
Wildfires sweeping across parts of southern Western Europe have forced the evacuation of over 250,000 residents in France and Spain.
In Spain, blazes near Madrid and Ávila have burned approximately 25,000 hectares of land. Meanwhile, in France's southwestern Gironde department, fires have consumed roughly 40,000 hectares. French Interior Minister Laurent Nunez stated that evacuations in Gironde have reached 167,000 people, including 57,000 removed overnight. Although flames remain active in the region surrounding Bordeaux, local authorities reported no immediate plans to evacuate the city itself. Emergency crews in both nations continue efforts to contain the spreading fires.
