A US Senate committee voted 8-7 along party lines to hold Anthony Fauci in contempt of Congress after he repeatedly invoked his Fifth Amendment rights.

A United States Senate committee voted 8–7 to hold former infectious disease official Anthony Fauci in contempt of Congress. The vote by the Homeland Security Committee was split along party lines following a hearing in which Fauci invoked his Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination more than 100 times while being questioned on the management of the COVID-19 pandemic. The decision opens the possibility of a criminal investigation into the former head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.
