US Senate blocks landmark digital asset regulation bill
The US Senate failed to advance a procedural vote on a landmark digital asset bill that would have given the CFTC primary oversight over crypto markets.
The US Senate has halted a major digital asset market structure bill following a 49–50 procedural vote. The proposed legislation aimed to establish a comprehensive regulatory framework for the cryptocurrency sector by granting primary supervisory authority to the Commodity Futures Trading Commission.
Following the failed vote, shares in cryptocurrency-related companies experienced a downturn. Despite the legislative setback, industry representatives expressed continued hope regarding future reform efforts. Blockchain Association Chief Executive Summer Mersinger stated she remains "optimistic that crypto will eventually get the regulatory framework it needs." The outcome leaves the division of federal regulatory oversight between American financial agencies unresolved for now.
