US prepares sweeping sanctions against Iran to isolate regime

Washington has announced plans to bar entities assisting Iranian money laundering from the US dollar system, driving Iran's currency to a record low.
The United States is preparing to launch a new wave of aggressive sanctions against Iran and its foreign commercial partners, aiming to cut off Tehran's access to the global financial system. US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced that Washington intends to target entities facilitating Iranian transactions by barring them from the US dollar ecosystem. Bessent framed the heightened economic pressure as a strategy to diminish the necessity for future large-scale military conflict in the Middle East.
Following the announcement, the Iranian rial dropped to a record low of 1.992 million per dollar on unregulated markets. Washington has urged international allies to comply with the enforcement measures, warning that institutions supporting Iranian money laundering will face severe penalties.
