US, Iran, and Oman approach agreement to reopen Strait of Hormuz
The US, Iran, and Oman are reportedly nearing a temporary 60-day deal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz to commercial shipping, according to diplomatic sources.
Negotiations between the United States, Iran, and Oman are nearing a temporary agreement aimed at reopening the strategic Strait of Hormuz to commercial shipping. According to reports from Axios and Saudi broadcaster Al Arabiya, an official announcement could be made shortly regarding a proposed 60-day arrangement to restore maritime transit through the waterway.
Iranian officials confirmed significant progress in parallel discussions with Oman. Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi stated that an agreement in principle had been reached on "almost all issues including the map for maritime entry and exit routes." Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei described talks as professional and moving forward, provided third parties do not interfere. Iranian authorities have not yet formally confirmed a final trilateral agreement with Washington.
