Tensions between the US and Iran escalated after a 60-day truce expired, leaving the Strait of Hormuz blocked as maritime strikes and regional diplomatic disputes continue.

A 60-day truce between the United States and Iran has expired, reigniting military and diplomatic tensions across the Middle East. Tehran reaffirmed that the Strait of Hormuz will stay closed until Washington fulfills all conditions from their June memorandum, including sanctions relief, the unfreezing of assets, and halting military campaigns against allied regional groups.

US President Donald Trump asserted that American forces maintain control over the strategic waterway and expressed deep distrust toward Iranian leadership. Meanwhile, hostilities at sea persist. US forces fired on the container ship Vela Nova in the Gulf of Oman for allegedly defying navigation curbs, while Houthi forces launched fresh attacks near the Bab el-Mandeb strait and Al Makha.

Regional friction also widened diplomatically as Washington criticized Israeli declarations ruling out withdrawals from southern Lebanon, Syria, and the Gaza Strip.
