Ukraine is scaling up domestic ballistic missile and precision-guided bomb projects to mitigate air defense shortages and reliance on Western military aid.

Ukrainian defense companies are accelerating domestic weapons development to counter ongoing Russian ballistic missile strikes and bridge gaps in foreign military assistance. President Volodymyr Zelensky acknowledged that obtaining licenses and overcoming bureaucratic hurdles to produce U.S.-designed Patriot air defense systems locally could take several years.

In response to immediate supply deficits, two domestic firms are engineering long-range ballistic missiles capable of targeting rear areas inside Russia. Simultaneously, Ukraine's armed forces are procuring the "Equalizer" precision-guidance kit, created by DG Industry and state defense incubator Brave1. The module attaches wings and guidance systems to unguided Soviet-era aerial munitions, enabling standoff strikes from existing fighter jets and reducing reliance on Western aid. Defense analysts emphasize that establishing mass production remains crucial as Ukraine faces prolonged vulnerability to heavy Russian bombardments.
