US President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping discussed the war in Ukraine and global security during Xi's first state visit to Washington in over a decade.
US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping have held high-level discussions at the White House as part of Xi's three-day state visit to the United States. The summit, marking Xi's first official trip to Washington in more than ten years, began with an atypical personal greeting from Trump at the aircraft stairs.
According to official statements, the bilateral talks covered major international concerns, including the war in Ukraine, crisis management in the Middle East, and security on the Korean Peninsula. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had previously urged Washington to leverage the talks to request Beijing’s help in pressuring Russia toward de-escalation. Analysts noted that Beijing could leverage its relations with Moscow in broader diplomatic trade-offs with Washington during the meetings.
