Iran awaits formal US stance on Hormuz as military activity escalates
Tehran awaits an official U.S. response on its proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, while military strikes and sea mine deployments escalate tensions in the strategic waterway.
Tehran remains awaiting a formal U.S. position regarding a proposed seven-day window to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, despite U.S. President Donald Trump publicly rejecting the initiative. Iranian officials stated that the strategic waterway will remain closed until Washington meets several preconditions, including lifting oil sanctions, unfreezing Iranian assets, ending port blockades, and halting regional military actions.
Simultaneously, military confrontation along the shipping lane continues to intensify. Following U.S. strikes on Iran's Larak Island and nighttime naval escorts for commercial oil tankers, Iranian forces responded by deploying rocket-launched sea mines to impede maritime traffic. Observers warn that escalating operations on both sides are narrowing the timeframe for a diplomatic resolution.
