Thousands demonstrate across Spain over rising housing crisis

Tens of thousands of protesters took to the streets across Spain to demand tenant protections after parliament rejected emergency housing measures.
Tens of thousands of protesters demonstrated across Spain on Saturday to demand greater protection for tenants and affordable housing. Demonstrations took place in around 50 locations, including Barcelona, Valencia, and Madrid, where local authorities estimated attendance at 70,000 people while organizers reported significantly higher turnout.
The nationwide rallies, organized by tenant advocacy groups, followed the Spanish parliament's rejection on Friday of emergency housing decrees introduced by the government. Protesters expressed frustration over soaring rent prices, evictions, and an estimated national shortage of roughly 700,000 homes. Activists warned of further action, including potential rent strikes, if lawmakers fail to enact structural reforms to protect tenants.
