Maritime transits through the Strait of Hormuz remain severely reduced six months into the standoff between Iran and the US, as military strikes and diplomatic talks continue.

Six months after Iran restricted access to the Strait of Hormuz, daily maritime transits have fallen from 95 to approximately 15. Iranian authorities declared the strategic waterway will remain restricted until Washington lifts oil sanctions, unfreezes assets, and halts military operations.

Despite Tehran announcing a safe navigation agreement with Oman, military confrontation in the region has escalated. After Iranian forces deployed rocket-launched sea mines against US oil shipments conducting nocturnal transits, American forces launched an airstrike on Larak Island targeting mine-laying facilities. The corridor historically carried one-fifth of global oil and liquefied natural gas supplies, leaving global energy markets vulnerable to further disruption.
