Spanish authorities bolster security in Ceuta amid conflicting migrant headcount reports and internal political friction in Madrid.

Spanish authorities have reinforced land and sea security around Ceuta following a recent influx of migrants crossing the border from Morocco. Defense and Interior ministries deployed naval frigates and additional riot police to prevent further entries, while military units assisted in concentrating border arrivals for return procedures. Processing has also begun for around twenty asylum applications.

Significant discrepancies remain regarding the total headcount. Central government representatives estimate that roughly 2,500 migrants stay in the enclave, including 500 unaccompanied minors. Conversely, local autonomous leaders claim the total could be as high as 6,000, pointing to severe pressure on public infrastructure. Additionally, some young migrants have reportedly opted to swim back to Morocco.

The ongoing crisis has exposed friction within Spain's cabinet over border management and diplomatic strategy toward Rabat.
