SpaceX shares fell over 12% at the market open following its first public earnings report, despite Q2 revenue doubling to $7.8 billion.

SpaceX shares fell by more than 12 percent at the opening of Wall Street trading following the release of its first quarterly financial results as a publicly traded company. The sharp decline extended losses from after-hours trading, where the stock had initially dropped between 6 and 7 percent.

While the market reacted negatively, the firm reported a 92 percent year-over-year revenue increase to $7.8 billion for the second quarter, surpassing Wall Street expectations. Growth was driven by its artificial intelligence division, which brought in $2.6 billion through data center rentals. However, SpaceX recorded a net loss of $541 million alongside $18.4 billion in quarterly capital investments, primarily dedicated to AI infrastructure.

Market anxiety remains focused on the massive expenditures as investors await further clarification from chief executive Elon Musk regarding capital allocation.
