Wildfires in France, Spain, and Italy prompt mass evacuations as extreme atmospheric phenomena and high temperatures accelerate the blazes.

Extreme heat and strong winds continue to fuel uncontrollable wildfires across Southern Europe, forcing widespread evacuations in France, Spain, and Italy.

In southwestern France and central Spain, hundreds of thousands of residents have been displaced as flames approach major population centers, including the outskirts of Bordeaux and Madrid. Experts note that intense heat from the blazes has triggered pyrocumulonimbus clouds, creating localized storm systems that further accelerate the fire's movement.

Meanwhile, in southern Italy, a rapidly advancing wildfire in Apulia's Gargano peninsula has swept from Peschici toward Vieste and Lower Molise. The Italian Coast Guard evacuated over a thousand tourists from coastal resorts and campsites by sea. Local authorities opened schools to shelter displaced residents after heavy smoke forced the closure of key highways and regional rail links near Termoli.
